Inclusive Recreation Resource Center

Learning Management System for Accessibility Assessment

GORGES Learning Management System

The IRRC maintains a database of the accessibility of recreational locations. They also provide training and certification in the assessment of these locations. They wanted to provide online access to both the database and the training and approached GORGES for help.

GORGES Multi-framework Solution

We leveraged our GORGES Learning Management System, built in Ruby on Rails, to provide the training aspect. Then we added the accessibility database and Drupal was utilized to provide a public facing website with information on the center and how to get involved. A single login was used to make it easier for IRRC staff to manage both the Drupal site and the Rails application.

Online Training

IRRC admins can build out their courses and manage certifications and course payments in the backend area of the system.

Accessibility Database

The searchable database provides a map and detailed information for each location. Assessors can add information on locations with their mobile devices even if they are offline.

Mobile Apps

In addition to the brochure website and backend software application GORGES built 3 mobile apps. The first allows the public to search the recreation database. The second is a toolkit that allows users to view accessibility requirements and add their own. The third allows assessors to upload information on accessibility while in the field even if they have no service.

Among other tasks, we developed a Learning Management System for our award-winning Inclusion U Online, which Gorges was able to integrate into the SUNY Cortland payment system. And perhaps the biggest achievement, Gorges developed a powerful online recreation database, with both a “back-end” data input system that is highly user friendly and a “front-end” public display of the data that is attractive and informative. We are now working on an app for our next phase of the project. Through all this work, the GORGES staff has been wonderful to work alongside, not only knowledgeable and skilled, but fun, too!
