Recent Web Site Launches

Momentum Media [www.momentummedia.com]

Momentum Media is the leading publisher of competitive athletic magazines, and they reach more than 200,000 professionals by print and 70,000 through online newsletters. Momentum Media needed a better, integrated solution for managing their weekly online newsletters.

Gorges Web Sites combined three open source packages to assemble the newsletters, create and manage advertisement campaigns, and send the newsletters automatically. The integrated solution records ad impressions and click-through information by individual customer, providing a rich trove of marketing information.

Not only did Gorges design and develop this solution, but we also host this e-newsletter system on our servers. Our secure production servers provide economical hosting with high availability, automated monitoring, and daily backups.

Applied Pulsed Power [www.appliedpulsedpower.org]

This local manufacturing powerhouse has been building state-of-the-art pulsed power components for almost two decades. To reach more customers with a professional appeal, Applied Pulsed Power (APP) asked Gorges Web Sites to re-design their web site.

We developed a web site for APP with a content management system (CMS) based on Wordpress. This CMS is used to make frequent updates themselves without any programming or ongoing licensing fees. Gorges delivered a top of the line web site for a reasonable cost.

Straight Line Performance Solutions [www.StraightLinePS.com]

You may have read about Straight Line Performance Systems in our last newsletter. Since then, we have added several products to their Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business.

Their new products now emulate a desktop application, which is the "Web 2.0" concept pushed to the extreme. To accomplish this task, we wrote a "100% AJAX" solution that provides instant results instead of waiting for a web page refresh.

Since our Gorges office is directly above the Ithaca Ale House, we are not only the developers but are also patrons of this fine dining establishment.

Sampling each ale is not part of our usual development process, but we thought it would help us understand the Ithaca Ale House a bit better. All kidding aside, we are pleased with their web site. And their ales.

Team Profile

David Furber, Application Developer / Interface Designer

Around the office David is known as "Dave The Web Doctor". He is our Ruby on Rails and CSS whiz, and if there's a problem anywhere odds are good David can fix it.

His technical abilities are listed on his team page on our web site, so instead we'll share what is not listed. David earned a PhD in history and started down the academic path before his true passion for building web sites emerged. We understand it is not the normal developer background, but his work speaks for itself.

Is is dangerous to buttonhole anyone with labels, but we'll use a few anyway: brilliant; curious; passionate. David is a dedicated family man - he and his wife Deanna have two wonderful children. We appreciate having David on our team!
