GORGES representatives meet with US Senator Gillibrand

Inline Image

GORGES team members Chris Grant and Don Ellis were invited to join a high-tech roundtable discussion with US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in Ithaca, NY on 8.18.2011.  Present at the meeting were entrepreneurs as well as institutional representatives.  This event was sponsored by Tompkins County Area Development and was focused on the recent growth of computer and electronic manufacturing jobs.

GORGES was well prepared to participate in this discussion, as we are contributing to this job growth in upstate NY, which has lost over 100,000 manufacturing jobs in the last five years.

Don introduced GORGES and pointed out a key challenge we face in our continued growth.  Many other business representatives delivered their input and suggestions as well.  The Senator was focused and well-spoken, and clearly motivated to learn from this elite group of individuals so that she can advance legislation and reduce barriers to help these growing businesses thrive and contribute jobs and economic prosperity to the region.

Picture of Project Manager

Karen Durfee

Karen has worked mostly administrative computing, with twelve years at Cornell University and public schools. Her experience includes project, system, and network planning. These years established a broad understanding of the responsibilities and contributions of typical team member functions in project development and implementation.

At GORGES, her assignments are in project leadership and administration.  She has a great combination of technical skills (desktop support, programming and system administration), and high-level analysis skills (business modeling and needs assessment). This experience proves successful in delivering projects on time and within budget.

Yahoo! Pipes

In the course of serving our diverse client base we work with many different Internet technologies. For a Cornell University client we are using Yahoo! Pipes to bring data into a web database.

This technology empowers both individuals working at their browsers and websites by capturing, or “piping”, a part of the Internet’s huge information flow. This online tool provides a fun graphical interface where sources may be selected, aggregated, and then output in a useful way.

Best of all, each source can be “filtered”. So, for example, if you are interested in pie, but only chocolate pie, you can set a filter to block key lime. GORGES can direct the aggregated and filtered output to your website. Think what this could do for your SEO and how it just keeps doing it when you are sleeping. New and important information every day on your website.
