Karen Durfee

Project Manager

Karen Durfee

Before coming to GORGES, Karen worked in education, mostly administrative computing, with twelve years at Cornell University and eight years at Ithaca City School District. Her experience spans technology from the global Internet to the end-user experience including project planning, system planning and administration, and network planning for new construction and major building renovations. These years established a broad understanding of the responsibilities and contributions of typical team member functions in project development and implementation.

Karen has been involved in web development since 1994, when she attended the 2nd international World Wide Web Conference. That same year, she began hosting her own website. It included a page for her dog, one of the first 'dog' pages on the Internet. Since then, she has worked with emerging technologies and implemented several large custom-made and off-the-shelf systems, both open source and proprietary. As the world wide web evolved, she continued to gain web technology skills, with extensive experience in web content management systems.

At GORGES, her assignments have been in project leadership and administration. She has a great combination of technical skills (desktop support, programming and system administration), and high level analysis skills (business modeling and needs assessment). Karen’s other strengths include project management, business analysis, systems planning, training and documentation, web development, enterprise backup, and server and database administration. This knowledge and experience give her a unique understanding of all aspects of project implementation and have proven to be a successful combination in delivering projects on-time and within budget.
