Ted Caldwell

Ted Caldwell is an Application Developer and Senior Software Architect for GORGES. Ted's work encompasses all aspects of web application development, including requirements analysis, database and software design, programming, project management, and system administration. Ted focuses on delivering practical, cost-effective technology solutions for GORGES clients, using a variety of custom and off-the-shelf software tools and frameworks.

Ted has over 20 years of software development experience, including work with several platforms (PHP/MySQL, JSP/Servlets, Java/Swing, ASP/SQL Server), web development frameworks and toolkits (Yii, Ext JS, jQuery, Google Web Toolkit), open-source packages (Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress, Zen Cart), and other related technologies (AJAX, XML/XSLT, PDF, RTF, Microsoft Office). He enjoys working with clients to understand their web software needs and create appropriate solutions. His recent work includes developing applications for the iPhone, as well as managing cloud-based application hosting environments.

Ted runs marathons

Prior to joining GORGES, Ted was Computational Linguist and Director of Engineering at CoGenTex, where he led development of several innovative applications based on natural language generation technology. He was the principal developer of a tool for generating textual product recommendations, used by prominent e-tailers including Staples and Target, and holds a U.S. patent related to this work. He also served as Principal Investigator on an NSF-funded project to develop Chart Explainer, a tool that generates natural-language descriptions of charts and graphs, currently licensed to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ted received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Saskatchewan, and Masters degrees in both Mathematics and Linguistics from McGill University.
